Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) inaugurated the fourth Ethiopia Tamar expo today. He stated Ethiopia achieved $10 billion in export revenue for the first time in history this year. Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said the manufacturing sector is the center of national sovereignty.
The Ethiopia Tamar expo opened in Addis Ababa, inaugurated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.). He announced Ethiopia achieved $10 billion in export revenue for the first time in history this year. "Ethiopia has earned $10 billion from exports for the first time in its history," he said.
Three years ago, export revenue stood at $3 billion, the Prime Minister noted. Under the Ethiopia Tamar initiative, the manufacturing sector's share grew from 4% to 10%. Over the past four years, 993 industries resumed operations and 3,680 new investors joined.
Industry Minister Melaku Alebel stated the expo features 370 manufacturers and over 150,000 visitors, expecting over 5 billion birr in deals. "The manufacturing sector is the center of our national sovereignty," he said. In recent months, 222 exhibitions enabled over 17,000 workers to showcase products.
The Prime Minister said a nation receiving aid cannot claim sovereignty. Manufacturing across all sectors ensures self-reliance, he added.
