Private sector urged to partner with government on health expansion

Addis Ababa's city administration, led by Mayor Adanech Abebe, has called on the private sector to collaborate with the government to expand health services. This initiative launches the Habari Health Plaza, built with Entoto technologies, aiming to curb medical travel abroad. It seeks to attract patients from neighboring countries and position Ethiopia as a medical tourism hub.

On Tahsas 25, 2018 E.C., Addis Ababa's city administration, under Mayor Adanech Abebe, urged the private sector to work with the government to broaden health services. The call comes amid efforts to launch the Habari Health Plaza, constructed using innovations from Entoto.

The plaza's primary aim is to reduce outbound medical trips and draw patients from neighboring nations. Officials noted that this could help conserve foreign exchange otherwise spent on overseas care. The private sector, they added, holds significant potential to deliver quality services if the government continues supporting the health field.

Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daba explained that integrating digital services ensures preserved quality and accessibility in health care, aligning with the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy. Institutions like this, she stated, can transform Ethiopia into a medical tourism destination. Habari Health Plaza's director, Dr. Akaza Te'ame, highlighted that it will feature various specialists and treatments typically available only abroad.

The plaza's development benefits from the extensive opportunities the government has provided to the private health sector.
