Senator Sifuna outlines qualities for single opposition candidate in 2027

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said on Tuesday that the opposition will select one presidential candidate through public opinion to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 election. He stressed unity and rejected selfishness or betrayal.

Sifuna spoke during a morning show on Inooro FM. He said the Linda Mwananchi group within ODM seeks a candidate with strong morals, integrity, and respect for the rule of law. He claimed President Ruto lacks these qualities.

He stressed that the candidate will be chosen through an inclusive process focused on national interests. Sifuna ruled out running himself for personal ambition and warned that a divided opposition would harm Kenyans.

He follows Raila Odinga’s vision of forgiveness and unity. Sifuna criticised the government for attacking former President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposed moves to strip retired presidents of their benefits.
