The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to evaluate their options for the first overall selection in the NHL Draft scheduled for June 26. Gavin McKenna remains the frontrunner but Ivar Stenberg is still under consideration.
Toronto Maple Leafs scout Mark Leach said the organization has not finalized its decision. 'It is not set in stone. We will discuss it. After this week we will go through the question again,' he told NHL Draft Class. Leach noted that general manager John Chayka traveled to Whitehorse to meet McKenna in person. The team also plans to interview Stenberg at the NHL Combine in Buffalo. Swedish prospect Ivar Stenberg described his Combine experience positively after meeting several clubs including Toronto. He compared his style to Lucas Raymond and expressed excitement about potentially playing in front of passionate fans. In the latest EliteProspects scout ranking Viggo Björck rose four spots to sixth. McKenna sits first followed by Caleb Malholtra in second and Stenberg in third. The Draft is set for the end of June.
