The Toronto Marlies defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 in overtime on Sunday to claim the Richard F. Canning Trophy and advance to the Calder Cup Finals.
Former Penguin Alex Nylander scored the series-clinching goal at 13:44 of overtime. Easton Cowan had tied the game earlier in the second period. The Marlies won the best-of-seven series 4-2. They finished the postseason with a 12-7 record after defeating Rochester, Laval, Cleveland and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The team will next face the winner of the Western Conference Finals between the Colorado Eagles and the Chicago Wolves. This marks Toronto's third appearance in the Calder Cup Finals and their first since winning the title in 2018.
