Novak Djokovic intends to extend his career through the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, according to his former coach Goran Ivanisevic. The 39-year-old Serbian player has already secured Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. Ivanisevic expressed confidence in Djokovic's ability to maintain a competitive schedule.
Goran Ivanisevic, who coached Djokovic during nine Grand Slam victories, shared details of the player's long-term goals. He told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti that Djokovic aims to play until the Los Angeles Games two years from now.
Ivanisevic highlighted Djokovic's mental strength and recent results. The world No. 7 reached the Australian Open final and a Wimbledon semifinal in 2026, where he became the oldest semifinalist in the Open Era after a record-setting quarterfinal win.
Djokovic has reduced his tournament schedule in recent years while focusing on Grand Slams and the Olympics. He is entered for the National Bank Open in Montreal starting August 1.
Ivanisevic noted that best-of-three set matches at the Olympics could suit Djokovic better than Grand Slam formats against top players like Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.
