A Phase II randomized trial found that a six-week, home-based walking and resistance program improved attention test performance and reduced reports that others noticed cognitive problems among patients receiving chemotherapy. Low-dose ibuprofen improved some attention measures but showed mixed results on memory outcomes. The study was published in Cancer.

A cognitive speed-training game that reduces dementia risk appears to boost the brain's clearance of a key protein in men but not women, according to new research presented this week.

A study from Kyoto University has found that older adults who took up and continued playing a musical instrument maintained better memory and brain health over four years compared to those who stopped.

Researchers have shown that stimulating specific brain activity in awake mice produces some of the restorative effects of deep sleep, including improved memory. The team now plans to explore whether a similar approach could work in people.

Researchers at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria have found that the brain's memory center, the hippocampus, begins life with a dense, seemingly random network of connections rather than a blank slate. This network refines itself through pruning, becoming more organized and efficient over time. The discovery challenges the traditional tabula rasa concept.
