President Lee Jae Myung planted cherry and peach trees at the presidential compound Cheong Wa Dae and his official residence in Seoul to mark Arbor Day on April 5.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Lee said, "Just as trees shoot out buds and flowers bloom in spring after a harsh winter, I will do my utmost as president to ensure that the spirit of hope spreads across this land once again."
He added, "Our mountains and fields, once devastated by war and poverty, were restored by the hands of our people. The Republic of Korea is a nation with a formidable resilience that has consistently overcome adversity and cultivated hope."
Yonhap News Agency reported the event, highlighting the president's commitment to environmental efforts amid spring greening initiatives.
