Carabineros detained a 64-year-old man in Curacautín on Friday after finding 19 animals showing signs of malnutrition. The suspect is scheduled to face detention control on Saturday for the crime of animal abuse.
The operation took place in the Las Raíces neighborhood following complaints from residents. Officers found 14 dogs and five cats that showed clear signs of malnutrition, poor hygiene and lack of veterinary care.
Lieutenant Matías Guevara stated that the animals were rescued with municipal support. The 19 animals were handed over to groups in Curacautín for quarantine and rehabilitation.
The man will remain in custody until the detention control scheduled for Saturday, when his formalization for animal abuse will be decided.
