A 19-year-old Chilean man was kidnapped in the San Miguel commune on Monday night and rescued after more than eight hours in captivity. Three Colombian citizens were sent to preventive prison on Tuesday, while a Venezuelan received lighter precautionary measures.
Security cameras captured the moment the young man was forcibly approached on Brigadier de la Cruz street around 21:00 on Monday. He was taken to a house in Lo Prado, where his captors contacted his family to demand money.
Carabineros from OS-9 rescued the victim near 5:20 on Tuesday at Almirante Barroso with Agustinas, in central Santiago. Drugs and a firearm were found at the Lo Prado residence. The four detainees included three Colombians and one Venezuelan.
Prosecutor Jorge Martínez stated that the victim did not know his captors and that one of the Colombian women was the most aggressive, instigating others to shoot him. The court ordered preventive prison for the three Colombians and national arraigo with periodic signing for the Venezuelan, setting 90 days for the investigation.
