California teen kills two in library shooting

An 18-year-old walked into a library in Chico, California, and opened fire with a shotgun, killing two people and wounding a child before being taken into custody.

Bradley Sayer entered the Butte County Library on Monday evening without a weapon, retrieved a shotgun from his vehicle, and returned to fire approximately eight rounds. Jacob Hull, 46, died after shielding an 8-year-old girl from the gunfire. Robert Johnson, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a female juvenile sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Sayer wore a T-shirt with the words "Natural Selection," similar to one worn by a Columbine shooter. Officials said he had no known connection to the library or victims and appeared influenced by Columbine-type events after deep involvement in related social media.

Police arrested Sayer without incident after multiple 911 calls. He faces first-degree murder charges and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Butte County. His father described him as a high-functioning autistic graduate who had never shown anger before.
