Car drives into Berlin CSD crowd, killing one

A vehicle drove into a crowd at the Christopher Street Day in Berlin on Saturday evening. One person died and at least 14 others were injured. Police are searching for the fleeing suspect.

Around 22:00 a white vehicle drove along Ahornsteig parallel to Lennéstraße near Potsdamer Platz into the crowd. It collided with a tree. The driver left the car and fled in an unknown direction.

Police spokesman Florian Nath confirmed one death and several life-threatening injuries. Witnesses reported stab wounds. Investigations are examining a possible second phase involving a stabbing weapon.

Governing Mayor Kai Wegner described it as an “attack on our free and open society”. Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the act “abominable”. The CSD was cancelled and more than 2,200 police officers were deployed.
