Centre withdraws powers of NIT Kurukshetra director, sets up review panel

The Centre has withdrawn the administrative and financial powers of NIT Kurukshetra Director B V Ramana Reddy with immediate effect. In orders dated March 29, the Education Ministry constituted a three-member committee to review the director's leadership and the institute's functioning. The panel will examine recruitment processes and complaints forwarded by the Central Vigilance Commission.

In an order dated March 29, the Education Ministry stated that Prof Reddy will not exercise administrative and financial powers conferred by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007, First Statutes, and those entrusted by the Board of Governors, with immediate effect until further orders.

A three-member committee, headed by Chairman of the National Educational Technology Forum Anil Sahasrabudhe, has been constituted to review the work, progress, and affairs of NIT Kurukshetra, along with the director's leadership role. The other members are retired IAS officer M Madan Gopal and Prof KK Shukla, Director of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal. The panel will visit the institute and submit its report within a month.

The committee will examine issues relating to recruitment and promotion processes, handling of staff grievances, and complaints forwarded by the Central Vigilance Commission and other agencies. It will also review the director's leadership and functioning, as well as the institute's overall governance, academic, and administrative operations.

Reddy took charge as NIT Kurukshetra Director in 2022.
