A Washington, D.C., woman was sentenced to 29 years in prison this week for a 2023 crash that killed a Lyft driver and two passengers.
Nakita Walker, 45, received the sentence after a jury convicted her in April of three counts of involuntary manslaughter. The victims were Mohamed Kamara, 42, Jonathan Alberto Cabrera Mendez, 23, and Olvin Josue Torres Velasquez, 22.
The crash occurred on March 15, 2023, after Walker fled a traffic stop on Rock Creek Parkway. She was driving at speeds up to 100 mph with a blood-alcohol level of 0.1 and cannabis in her system.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the sentence reflected the harm caused. Walker told the court she took accountability and prayed for forgiveness.
The incident happened after Walker left a movie and night out with friends.
