Finance Minister Dario Durigan said on Friday that the Brazilian government fears the Pix system may be linked to criminal factions classified as terrorists by the United States and face American sanctions.
In an interview with Globonews, Durigan explained that the concern arose after questions about Pix began at the start of Donald Trump’s administration. He cited a commercial investigation opened against Brazil last year.
The minister warned that information on Pix use by factions such as the PCC and CV could lead to attacks on the system and punishments for companies. The American classification takes effect on June 5.
Durigan advocated cooperation between Brazilian and American authorities. He mentioned Operation Carbono Oculto and talks with the financial system since Thursday to avoid impacts on ratings and foreign investment.
