Ethiopian public health institute launches risks tracking dashboard

Addis Ababa, February 17, 2018 (Fana) - The Ethiopian Public Health Institute has launched a digital dashboard to track public health risks. This system replaces manual data collection and can identify health issues in each district across Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute, based in Addis Ababa, has introduced a digital system designed to manage public health risks in a coordinated way. Institute Director Dr. Mesay Haile stated during a press briefing that this dashboard can detect the type of health issue present in every district of Ethiopia.

The new system replaces previous manual data gathering methods and promotes information flow across all levels, according to Dr. Mesay. Deputy Director Dr. Melkamu Abte added that it enables coordinated control of health risks.

The institute, aiming to become a center of excellence in public health risk tracking, explained that the dashboard supports early warning measures, joint interventions, data analysis, timing assessments, and proper storage of victim information. Officials, including Health Minister Dr. Mekdes Daban, participated in a phone call during the event, marking the establishment of a renewed public health risks coordination center.

The institute has also registered information and communication technology projects to enhance the public health risk tracking systems in regional and city administrations.
