Two Ateneo basketball players died in a drowning incident on June 8 in Aurora during a team-building activity.
Rene Clert Baterbonia, 19, and Divine Adili, 21, died at the Hermanos Leisure Farm and Surf Camp in Dipaculao, Aurora. Police said there was no foul play and described the deaths as a natural accident after the players were swept by strong currents. Baterbonia’s family requested an autopsy, and Ateneo is coordinating with the NBI and CIDG. The DOJ said it remains committed to establishing the facts and serving justice. On June 10, the PSC announced it will provide P250,000 to each family. The UAAP said it will go where the evidence leads before imposing any sanctions.
