Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin issued a video apology on June 12 for the drowning deaths of players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili during a team activity on June 8.
Baldwin spoke in an eight-minute video posted by the school. He said he felt he had failed the players and their families after the incident at a beach in Dipaculao, Aurora.
The coach described sending the team on a routine training run along the shore. Strong currents later swept Baterbonia, 18, and Adili, 21, into dangerous waters where they drowned.
Baldwin noted that the families of the two players faced a greater loss. He added that he was summoned by authorities including the Philippine National Police as investigations continue.
The Department of Labor and Employment also called on Baldwin to present his Alien Employment Permit. The Department of Justice received a request for an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order against him.
