Fire at waste facility in Borlänge triggers public alert

A major fire at a waste facility in Färjegårdarna in Borlänge municipality has prompted an important public alert.

The alarm about the fire came shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday. Rescue service DalaMitt issued a VMA to people in the area urging them to stay away from the site and close doors, windows and ventilation if needed.

Two helicopters were deployed on Sunday evening to fight the fully developed and hard-to-extinguish blaze. Jens Hermansson at the rescue service said the fire was under control but staff were expected to remain through the night into Monday.

The rescue service warns the public against bathing or drinking water from Dalälven due to extinguishing water. The advice remains in place until 9 a.m. on Monday. No one is reported to have been injured in connection with the fire.
