Ford reaches agreement with Geely to produce cars at Almussafes

Ford management has finalized a deal with Geely for the Chinese maker to produce vehicles at the Almussafes plant in Valencia. The official announcement will take place Thursday at the factory in the presence of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

Ford Europe president Jim Baumbick will formalize the agreement this Thursday at Almussafes alongside Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Valencia regional president Juanfran Pérez Llorca. The deal will allow Geely to use one assembly line at the plant, which will continue producing the Ford Kuga while awaiting the Bronco SUV from 2028 onward.

The factory has seen a sharp drop in activity. In 2025 it produced 98,591 vehicles, down 18.69 % from 2024. The workforce remains under a temporary layoff scheme covered by the RED mechanism until December 31.

Talks between the two companies became public last February. Geely aims to manufacture inside the European Union to avoid tariffs on vehicles imported from China. Ford, meanwhile, seeks to make use of the facilities until new models arrive.
