Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua says he will take his case to the Court of Appeal after the High Court upheld the Senate's decision to impeach him.
Gachagua made the announcement on Tuesday, June 9 2026. He said he disagrees with the ruling by justices Eric Ogolla, Anthony Mrima and Fridah Mugambi that upheld his removal. The court found his right to a fair hearing had been violated and awarded him 50 million shillings in damages. It ruled however that the Senate's procedural flaws did not nullify Parliament's impeachment decision. Gachagua stated that principles of natural justice were ignored and that he will exhaust all legal avenues up to the Supreme Court. He emphasised respect for the judiciary while disagreeing with its interpretation of the law.
