Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko issued a statement on Thursday questioning the Supreme Court's handling of his appeal against impeachment.
Sonko said the Supreme Court sought advice from Attorney General Dorcas Oduor on whether impeached officials can contest elections. He claimed Chief Justice Martha Koome's public remarks in interviews showed bias.
He referenced July 2022 events when the High Court in Mombasa allowed him to seek the Mombasa governorship. Sonko said the Supreme Court gave him only hours to file submissions.
He also cited a ruling by the East African Court of Justice that found procedural flaws in his case. Sonko stressed the issues concern judicial independence and public trust.
