An Illinois EMT received probation instead of jail time for his role in the 2022 death of a patient. Peter Cadigan, 53, admitted to involuntary manslaughter in the suffocation of Earl Moore Jr.
Peter Cadigan was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service. He was also barred from working in healthcare and credited with 180 days already served in jail.
Cadigan and former colleague Peggy Finley had been charged with first-degree murder. Prosecutors said the pair strapped Moore face down on a gurney in December 2022 while he was hallucinating during alcohol detox in Springfield.
Moore, 35, died from compressional and positional asphyxia. Cadigan pleaded guilty in April. Finley's trial is now set for Aug. 24.
