India on Thursday marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, the military strikes launched in response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the operation was a befitting reply to Pakistan’s sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. “The entire world saw the Pahalgam terrorist attack for what it was,” he stated during a weekly media briefing.
India launched the strikes on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The action triggered four days of hostilities that ended with a ceasefire on May 10.
Jaiswal reaffirmed India’s position that it has every right to defend itself against terrorism. He added that the Indus Waters Treaty remains in abeyance until Pakistan credibly ends its support for cross-border terrorism.
