Indonesian hajj pilgrims with comorbidities urged to maintain fitness ahead of peak hajj

Health coordinator in Madinah urges Indonesian Hajj pilgrims with comorbidities to preserve stamina ahead of peak Armuzna rituals. Heart disease is the most common complaint among pilgrims. Officials stress avoiding fatigue while in Madinah.

Dr Fitri Indahyanti, Sp P, Coordinator of the Health Team for Sector 2 Madinah, urged pilgrims with comorbidities to maintain their physical condition. "We emphasize to pilgrims, especially those with comorbidities, to keep their condition healthy in preparation for Hajj towards Armuzna," she told reporters at Saja by Warwick Hotel in Al Masani District, Madinah, on Sunday (26/4/2026).

Fitri advised pilgrims to avoid excessive activities to prevent fatigue and relapse of diseases brought from Indonesia. The Promosi Kesehatan team evaluation found heart disease and dementia as the most common issues. One pilgrim with hypertension suffered a heart relapse due to fatigue.

Some hard-to-educate pilgrims were referred to Kantor Kesehatan Haji Indonesia (KKHI) or Saudi hospitals. Cluster doctors coordinate with the sector team for handling.

Iskandar Mahyudin, Head of Sector 2 Madinah Work Area, stated internal coordination among services has been conducted. Over 25 clusters or 8,335 pilgrims have arrived at 23 hotels, including 3,138 elderly. "With the existing synergy, we hope Hajj pilgrims in Sector 2 Madinah are granted health," he said.
