Inss sets up task force to review maternity salary requests

The National Institute of Social Security has launched a special operation to assess maternity salary claims that have been pending for over a month.

The operation, named Specialized Analysis Mobilization for Maternity Salary, began on Friday and continues until the 22nd. The goal is to review 61,000 requests, representing about 32 percent of the current backlog.

The effort coincides with Mother's Day and aims to shorten waiting times for the benefit paid to autonomous INSS contributors. Maternity salary covers cases of birth, adoption or miscarriage.

In recent months the number of approvals has nearly doubled following a Supreme Court ruling. In January 2025, 48,000 benefits were authorized compared with 94,000 in December.
