Jack Nicklaus sends handwritten letter to PGA winner Aaron Rai

Aaron Rai received a personal note from Jack Nicklaus after his PGA Championship victory in May. The gesture came to light during a press conference at the Open Championship.

Aaron Rai described the letter as surreal when he opened his mail following the win. Nicklaus has sent such notes to major winners for more than 40 years.

Rai also wrote a supportive message to fellow player Pablo Larrazabal after meeting him at the Genesis Scottish Open. The note, left in Larrazabal’s locker with photos of past wins, encouraged him to keep believing in his game.

Larrazabal said the gesture showed that it is not all about winning and that Rai is leaving a legacy through his conduct both on and off the course. Rai said he simply felt it was the right thing to do.
