Jordan Spieth finished tied for 12th at five under par in the 2026 Masters, seven shots behind winner Rory McIlroy. Despite the result, Spieth declared his tee-to-green play the best he has ever produced at Augusta National. He closed with a four-under 68, highlighted by a hole-out eagle at the 13th and a birdie at the 18th.
Spieth's strong final round was not enough to overcome his earlier struggles, leaving him at five under for the tournament. He tied for 12th, marking his fourth top-12 finish of the season. Yet Spieth was unequivocal in his assessment of his iron play and driving, saying it surpassed his performance during his 2015 victory and top finishes from 2014 to 2016, as well as later results like third in 2018, tied third in 2021 and tied fourth in 2023. “I hit it better than the year I won and I hit it way better than any of the second places or fourths that I hit it,” Spieth said. “Probably the best I ever hit it here. ” Spieth pinpointed putting as the key shortfall, noting he left more than 20 putts short during the week. He described his stroke as mostly clean but admitted the hole appeared small starting in the first round. “The stroke, my stroke felt clean minus a couple of them, better than bad putting times. It just last week I got a little off in the first round and the hole just looked small, ” he explained. Spieth speculated that a few early makes on Thursday could have changed the tournament's course. Looking ahead, Spieth plans to focus on short-range putting at the RBC Heritage this week to rebuild confidence and chase a victory.
