Julia Holter has revealed details of her upcoming album Materia, set for release on August 21 via Domino. The record serves as a companion to her 2024 release Something in the Room She Moves.
The art-pop composer and singer-songwriter shared the news alongside the single Fantasy, which includes a video directed by Dicky Bahto.
Holter described the track in a statement. She said it was the most laborious song on the record despite its appearance of willful abandon. The piece took over a year and went through various transformations.
Materia features new songs written and recorded with Holter’s band between tours. It includes multiple versions of the track Materia from the previous album as well as pieces developed during its creation. One selection, My Twin, is a 10-minute solo improvisation by Holter.
