The Jury Tribunal acquitted two military police officers on Thursday accused of killing 24-year-old Igor Oliveira de Moraes Santos during a police approach in Paraisópolis, São Paulo.
Renato Torquatto da Cruz and Robson Noguchi de Lima were acquitted after three days of trial at the Barra Funda Criminal Forum. The jurors recognized authorship of the shots but decided on acquittal. The two officers will be released from Presídio Militar Romão Gomes.
The Public Ministry appealed the decision. The lawyers representing Igor's family described the case as a summary execution and said the ruling goes against the evidence.
The young man was killed on July 10, 2025, according to body camera footage showing Igor surrendered and unarmed. The case against the other two military police officers charged has been separated and has no trial date yet.
