Low-pressure area likely to bring rain in western ghat districts

A well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal has recurved northeastwards, likely to bring light to moderate rain in isolated places in the Western Ghat districts, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai. Dry weather is forecast over the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Monday and Tuesday.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai reported that a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal recurved northeastwards gradually and was centred over the same region at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday. It is very likely to continue moving northeastwards over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 36 hours.

This system is expected to bring light to moderate rain at isolated places in the Western Ghat districts. The forecast indicates dry weather over the rest of Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal areas, on Monday and Tuesday.

Mist or haze is likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Kancheepuram during the early morning hours of Monday and Tuesday.

On Sunday, rainfall occurred at isolated places over the state, with a few instances in south coastal Tamil Nadu and isolated places elsewhere in the state, while dry weather prevailed over Puducherry and Karaikal area.
