Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test postponed amid paper leak allegations

The Maharashtra government postponed the Teacher Eligibility Test 2026 scheduled for June 28 after authorities discovered questions similar to the exam paper in Bhiwandi. Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi criticised the move as theft of youth opportunities.

The postponement was announced on June 27 following a police raid in Bhiwandi town of Thane district. Officials found individuals in possession of questions matching those in the TET paper. A case was registered against three persons and a Special Investigation Team was formed under Thane Joint CP Panjabrao Ugale.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the probe while the Maharashtra State Council of Examination stated the exam would be rescheduled with full transparency. Around six lakh candidates had registered for the test across 1,728 centres.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described the incident as theft of the youth's future. He said the education system had become one of extortion. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged young people to raise their voices against repeated exam irregularities.
