Marcos muling sumuporta sa kandidatura ng Pilipinas sa UN Security Council

Muling ipinaabot ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang kandidatura ng Pilipinas para sa upuang miyembro ng United Nations Security Council habang nasa New York siya. Ayon sa Malacañang, nagpulong si Marcos kay UN Secretary-General António Guterres upang talakayin ang usaping ito. Sinabi ng Palace na hindi ito para sa sariling interes lamang ng bansa.

Nasaan sa New York si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nang muling ipahayag ang hangarin ng Pilipinas na maging miyembro ng United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Ayon sa Palace Press Officer na si Claire Castro, nagkaroon ng pagpupulong si Marcos kay UN Secretary-General António Guterres sa UN Headquarters upang talakayin ang kandidatura ng bansa.

Sinabi ni Castro na ang pagtugon sa upuang ito ay hindi lamang para sa Pilipinas kundi para sa lahat ng bansa. “It's not all about us, it's all about everybody. Kung anumang bansa ang may kinakaharap patungkol sa mga peace and security, kailangan lamang pong madinig din ang Pilipinas kapag naging miyembro po tayo ng UN Security Council dahil ang boses na ito ang maaaring makapag-ambag para sa pandaigdigang kaligtasan, kapayapaan at seguridad,” aniya.

Bagaman nabanggit ng Philippine Ambassador sa Estados Unidos na si Jose Manuel "Babe" Romualdez na maaaring makaapekto ang upuang ito sa claim ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea, kinilala ni Castro na maaaring idiin pa rin ang isyung iyon kung magiging miyembro ang bansa. Gayunpaman, iginiit niya na responsibilidad at hindi pribilehiyo ang pagiging miyembro ng UNSC.

Ang halalan para sa upuang ito ay nakatakdang maganap noong Hunyo 3, 2026. Bukod sa pagpupulong kay Guterres, nagbigay din ng talumpati si Marcos sa 70th Session ng UN Commission on the Status of Women sa dalawang araw na pagbisita niya sa New York.
