Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Dadan stated that the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) could exceed 40 million beneficiaries before the end of October 2025. The statement came after reporting progress to President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. The program is also boosting the local economy by absorbing hundreds of thousands of workers.
In a report to President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, Dadan highlighted significant progress in food provider kitchens. "Today, there are already 13,514 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units spread across 38 provinces, 509 districts, and 7,022 sub-districts, potentially serving 39.5 million. By the end of this month, we might already be serving 40 million," he said.
MBG budget absorption so far stands at Rp35.6 trillion, or 50.1% of the target. Dadan aims for 82.9 million beneficiaries by year's end. Moreover, the program has absorbed up to 600,000 workers nationwide, driving the local supply chain from farmers and SMEs to Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG).
For 2026, an additional budget allocation of Rp268 trillion is prepared for expanding the national nutrition program. Challenges persist, however, including logistical hurdles in building kitchens in remote areas and food poisoning incidents that have drawn public scrutiny. Dadan acknowledged operational and food safety difficulties, but the government is committed to maintaining quality without compromise.
