Mio Backhaus poised for move from Bremen to Freiburg

Goalkeeper Mio Backhaus of SV Werder Bremen is reportedly set to join SC Freiburg. A transfer fee of 15 million euros has been mentioned. Official confirmation is expected in the coming days.

The 21-year-old U21 national goalkeeper Mio Backhaus is said to have reached full agreement with SC Freiburg on all terms. Reports from Bild and Deichstube cite a base transfer fee of 15 million euros for the move from the Weser to the Dreisam.

The current starting goalkeeper Noah Atubolu is accordingly expected to leave. Atubolu remained cautious about the rumors after the 0:3 Europa League final defeat to Aston Villa.

Besides Freiburg, several English clubs had also shown interest in Backhaus. The goalkeeper however apparently opted to stay in the Bundesliga.
