Mother and daughter die by suicide in Hong Kong after education argument

A 48-year-old government social worker and her 12-year-old daughter died by suicide in Taikoo Shing on Wednesday after arguing over education problems.

The argument took place at 7.45am on Wednesday. The mother then jumped from the 19th-floor home in Taikoo Shing at around 9am.
The daughter discovered the body, alerted police and was later taken by family members to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.
She received an assessment at the hospital psychology unit from a registered clinical psychologist who had been her mother’s work supervisor. She returned home with her father at 7.05pm.
Hours later the girl also jumped from the living room.
