Nine Indonesian citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission have been released by Israeli authorities. They have now arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, in good health and will soon be repatriated.
Indonesian Consul General in Istanbul Darianto Harsono stated that the nine Indonesians are now with his team after their release on Thursday, May 21, 2026. They had been detained for four to five days and endured physical violence including being kicked, beaten, and electrocuted.
Foreign Minister Sugiono affirmed that the Indonesian government continues to oversee the repatriation process through coordination with various overseas representatives. He expressed appreciation to the Turkish government for its support in facilitating the volunteers' return.
Deputy Chairman of House Commission I Dave Laksono welcomed the release as evidence of strong diplomacy and international solidarity. All nine Indonesians will complete procedures in Istanbul before heading home.
