Padres place Laureano and Estrada on injured list

The San Diego Padres received a pair of injury updates on Friday as left fielder Ramón Laureano underwent surgery on his right hip and right-hander Jeremiah Estrada was placed on the 15-day injured list with right knee inflammation.

Manager Craig Stammen confirmed that Laureano had surgery to repair a torn labrum. The move follows a worsening of a hip issue that has bothered Laureano for most of the past five seasons. He will rehab at the team’s Spring Training complex in Peoria, Arizona, with a typical recovery timeline of four to five months. Estrada’s placement on the injured list is retroactive to June 3. His earliest possible return is June 19. Stammen said the knee issue stemmed from pushing off the mound and described the absence as relatively short. Right-hander David Morgan was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to fill the roster spot. The injuries add to a difficult stretch for the Padres, who have lost nine of their last 10 games and fallen out of the playoff picture. Stammen called Laureano’s absence a big loss for an offense already scoring the fewest runs in the majors.
