Prabowo emphasizes SME empowerment and fight against cross-border crimes at APEC

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and multilateral cooperation against cross-border crimes for a resilient Asia-Pacific region. The statement was delivered at the first session of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea. He highlighted inclusive economic growth and threats like smuggling and corruption.

President Prabowo Subianto delivered a speech at the first session of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) at the Hwabaek International Convention Centre (HICO) in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, on Friday local time. He stressed that economic growth must be inclusive and benefit all parties, with government-private sector collaboration focused on a people-centered economy.

"APEC must ensure that the benefits of trade and investment reach everyone so that no economy is left behind. Our government-private sector collaboration needs to be oriented towards cooperation and a people-centered economy," said President Prabowo.

He outlined Indonesia's steps through national programs empowering SMEs and cooperatives, including enhanced digital and financial access for integration into global value chains. "In Indonesia, we implement this principle through national programs that empower small businesses and cooperatives to optimize their potential, improve welfare, and contribute to a more sustainable future," he stated.

The President also highlighted cross-border crime threats such as smuggling, fraud, money laundering, human trafficking, and narcotics that endanger regional economic stability. "We cannot address these dangers alone. Smuggling, fraud, money laundering, human trafficking, and narcotics are real threats to our economic future," he asserted.

Indonesia is combating corruption and greedy businessmen for fair growth and is ready to serve as a bridge between advanced and developing economies. "We are fighting corruption, fraud, and greedy businessmen that hinder real growth. These experiences may position Indonesia as a bridge between advanced and developing economies in facing future challenges," he said. He concluded by calling for strengthened multilateral cooperation. "Let us work together to achieve this goal," he remarked.
