Former Ferrari and Williams engineer Rob Smedley has cautioned that Formula 1 drivers who depart leading squads in pursuit of a number one role elsewhere seldom achieve the expected success or satisfaction.
Speaking on the High Performance Racing podcast, Smedley reflected on his time at Ferrari and observed that such moves often lead to disappointment. He noted that drivers struggling against their teammate at a top team face limited options, as joining a lesser outfit rarely results in championship contention or personal happiness.
