Ang kontratista na si Curlee Discaya at mga dating DPWH engineers na sina Henry Alcantara, Brice Hernandez, at Jaypee Mendoza ay mananatili sa detensyon ng Senado ngayong Pasko matapos tanggihan ang kanilang kahilingan para sa furlough, ayon sa Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson.
Sa Manila, Philippines, inihayag ni Lacson na inirekomenda niya sa Senate President na tanggihan ang kahilingan ng apat na ito para sa Christmas furlough dahil sa mga dahilan ng seguridad. Ayon sa kanya, 'I recommended to the Senate President that their request for Christmas furlough be denied mainly for security reasons, owing to the repeated media statements from Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that arrest warrants against them will be issued before Christmas.' Sila ay nadetenido dahil sa pagiging contemptuous at pagsisinungaling sa harap ng Senate Blue Ribbon committee sa imbestigasyon ng flood control probe.
Dagdag pa ni Lacson, 'So the risk of escape becomes greater – not to mention that it makes no sense to grant such requests for Christmas leave if indeed warrants are coming out by then.' Gayunpaman, pinayagan silang dumalo sa misa sa loob ng Senado at bisitahin ng pamilya roon, ngunit hindi sila makakaalis ng kustodiya. 'That’s the most that we can allow, given the circumstances,' aniya.
Si Curlee Discaya ay nasa Senate custody, habang ang kanyang asawang kontratista na si Sarah ay naaresto at nakakulong sa Lapu-Lapu city jail dahil sa hindi ma-bail na kaso ng malversation na may kaugnayan sa alegadong P96.5 milyong 'ghost' flood control project sa Davao Occidental. Ang insidente na ito ay bahagi ng mas malaking eskandalo sa flood control projects na kinabibilangan ng mga opisyal ng DPWH, kabilang ang yumao nang dating undersecretary na si Maria Catalina Cabral, na pinaghihinalaang may ill-gotten wealth na hanggang P20 bilyon ayon kay Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.
