President Claudia Sheinbaum and Mexico City Head of Government Clara Brugada announced they will watch the 2026 World Cup opening match from the FIFA Fan Fest at the Zocalo in Mexico City.
During the morning conference on May 29, Sheinbaum handed over the tickets won by Yolett Cervantes and Briana Ameli Medina, who succeeded in a pull-up contest. The young women will attend Estadio Ciudad de Mexico to see the Mexico vs South Africa match on June 11.
Sheinbaum and Brugada gave away their tickets because they believed the young athletes better represent the country. Both officials confirmed they will watch the game at the Zocalo Fan Fest, which will feature a 510-square-meter LED screen.
The Zocalo event starts on June 11 and runs until the final on July 19. Screens will also be installed at other city locations including La Bombilla park and Plaza Garibaldi.
