President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the Tren Suburbano from Buenavista to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will open on Sunday, April 26. She confirmed it during her morning conference on Monday, April 20. The date had been previewed earlier by Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez.
President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the train to AIFA "is ready" and will be inaugurated on Sunday, April 26. "It's ready, the train to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) opens on Sunday," she said during her April 20 conference.
Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez had noted the previous Friday that everything was set for last weekend's opening, but it was delayed as Sheinbaum was traveling in Barcelona. Built by engineers from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the 23-kilometer extension starts at Lechería station, passing through Tultitlán, Tultepec, Nextlalpan, and Zumpango, with six new stations.
The branch allows travel from Mexico City's center to AIFA in about 39 minutes without transfers. The 10 trains will run every 10 minutes from 5:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., carrying up to 82,000 passengers daily using the Tarjeta de Movilidad Integrada. It features baggage areas and aims to boost regional logistics development.
Sheinbaum had promised the opening for Holy Week, but final tests on signaling, tracks, and rolling stock caused the delay. The infrastructure used 1,500 tons of steel, 96,000 sleepers, and 50,000 cubic meters of concrete.
