The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed criminal proceedings against Ketki Vyas in the 2023 Anand spy camera blackmail case. The order halts the trial pending further hearings. Vyas, a Gujarat Administrative Service officer, faces allegations of secretly filming an ex-collector.
A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Sheel Nagu issued notice on Vyas's special leave petition challenging a Gujarat High Court order. The court stated that further proceedings in the criminal case would remain stayed. The matter is listed for August 24, 2026.
Vyas was arrested in August 2023 along with two others. Investigators alleged that hidden cameras were installed in the Anand collector's chamber to record meetings and that footage was used to demand clearance of land files.
The Gujarat High Court had found a strong prima facie case against her. Vyas has argued that the case is frivolous and motivated, claiming she is a victim of selective prosecution.
She was also booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged disproportionate assets worth more than Rs 3.56 crore. The Supreme Court condoned the delay in filing the petition.
