Svea Court of Appeal has reduced the sentence for a 53-year-old woman convicted of murdering her 79-year-old mother in Norberg. The penalty changes from life imprisonment to 18 years in prison.
In early January the elderly woman was found dead in her apartment in Norberg. The Court of Appeal confirms that the daughter subjected her mother to severe violence but assesses the act as an impulse.
The Court states that the daughter had indifference intent and a mental disorder that partially impaired her ability to control her actions. The crime is not deemed serious enough to warrant a life sentence.
The daughter has denied the crime and requested acquittal. Svea Court of Appeal shares the district court’s assessment of guilt but reduces the penalty to the longest fixed-term sentence.
