Thieves broke into three churches in Kirinyaga County, stealing property worth over KSh 1 million. The robbery occurred on the night of Saturday, May 2. Church leaders have raised alarms over insecurity and called for more patrols.
Three churches in Kirinyaga County—St. Joseph Catholic Church, ACK Kiamangunyi, and Fountain of Life Church—were targeted by thieves on the night of Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The intruders forced open windows to enter and stole musical instruments including microphones, a keyboard, and a sound receiver worth over KSh 500,000. They also drank the Holy Sacrament and took cash from the premises. One member stated, "We are saddened because thieves got access to our church premises and stole musical instruments totalling over Ksh 500,000."
Another congregant said, “We received information from a neighbour that there were items on his farm. When we went to verify, we confirmed that the goods belonged to our church. It then became clear that the church had been broken into.” Church leaders noted the criminals moved freely in the compounds and urged more security patrols and surveillance.
Such incidents are not isolated, as thieves have recently targeted churches across Kenya due to low resistance.
