President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, into the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology, Nasarawa.
The approval came following a proposal from Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu of Nasarawa West Senatorial District. It aims to harness the state's solid mineral resources and support national industrialisation.
A statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the new institution will focus on mining, engineering, mineral processing, metallurgy, manufacturing and emerging technologies. It will also produce skilled workers to drive value addition and sustainable mineral exploitation.
Tinubu directed the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission and other agencies to begin implementation processes under relevant laws. The move aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda for specialised education tied to economic priorities.
