Long-distance train Argo Bromo Anggrek collided with a stationary KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday evening, April 27, 2026, killing six and injuring 80. The incident was reportedly triggered by a Green SM electric taxi hitting the KRL at a crossing near Bulak Kapal. Evacuation efforts continued into Tuesday morning with three victims trapped in the women's carriage.
The incident occurred around 20:52 WIB at KM 28+920, Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi. The KRL heading to Cikarang stopped after being hit by a Green SM electric taxi at a level crossing near Bulak Kapal, so the Argo Bromo Anggrek train from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi could not avoid colliding with it. The Argo Bromo locomotive penetrated KRL carriage number 8, the women's carriage.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported all 240 Argo Bromo passengers safe and evacuated, while six KRL passengers died and 80 injured were treated at hospitals including RSUD Bekasi, RS Primaya, and RS Mitra Keluarga. KAI VP Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated, "All medical costs for the injured and funeral costs for the deceased will be fully covered by insurance and KAI."
On Tuesday morning, Basarnas Chief Mohammad Syafii reported three victims still trapped; SAR teams used cutting and lifting techniques without shifting the carriage to avoid further injuries. "Currently, there are five fatalities," he said, though KAI noted six. Bekasi Timur Station temporarily closed to passengers, KRL services only to Bekasi Station.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi urged KNKT investigation. Green SM stated it provided information to authorities and supports the probe. TransJakarta operated shuttle buses from Bekasi Timur to Bekasi. Several long-distance trains canceled on April 28.
