A fire in a light dwelling in the rural Angostura sector of Mostazal commune left two dead on Friday morning.
The incident occurred around six in the morning on Friday in the locality of Angostura, O’Higgins Region. Municipal staff and firefighters from Mostazal fought the flames with water trucks to prevent spread to nearby homes.
The Public Ministry requested the Homicide Brigade of Rancagua and the Criminalistics Laboratory to investigate the causes. Subprefect Juan Reyes said mechanical, chemical and electrical engineers are working at the scene to determine the fire’s origin and focus.
Mayor Verónica Arroyo noted that neighbors had expressed concern over the occupants’ use of a wood stove for cooking. Reyes confirmed this is one line of inquiry, though it must be established scientifically.
