Ubisoft has approved development of a new Far Cry title at its Vantage Studios subsidiary. The project, codenamed Kodiak, is described as a really ambitious open-world first-person shooter.
The game follows the franchise's standard format, with player interactions and player-driven stories at its core. It entered development after Ubisoft canceled a separate Far Cry project, codenamed Maverick, which was planned as an extraction shooter.
Elements from the canceled Maverick title are being incorporated into Kodiak. The studio continues work on its next mainline entry, known internally as Blackbird and expected to become Far Cry 7.
Kodiak remains several years from release. The last mainline Far Cry game launched in 2021.
